I walk into high-end stores, resort boutiques, and even chain body shops looking for the perfect moisturizer. Every time, I find something that smells great, and the label promises it will leave my skin smooth. The front of the bottle lists amazing ingredients that supposedly add moisture. Simple, right? But flip that bottle over and look at the real ingredients. Wow, I don’t even recognize most of them, except for water and alcohol. Yes, that high-end bottle contains mostly water.
Now, let’s move on to the product itself. Do you think it really works? Well, it does smell good, thanks to the synthetic fragrance, but why am I constantly reapplying it? Is it truly adding moisture? If so, why does my skin seem worse? Shouldn’t applying it once a day be enough? Hmm, apparently not.
Just like with soap making, I decided to take matters into my own hands. For liquid lotion to work, it needs water, which in turn requires a preservative. Plus, liquid lotions need an emulsifier to keep the ingredients from separating—yet another synthetic ingredient.
The solution? A solid lotion bar that melts upon contact with the skin.
When natural butters melt, they absorb quickly and easily into the skin. No more messy, greasy hands struggling to turn the bathroom knob! Another key benefit is using beeswax, a natural humectant that attracts and binds moisture from the air—an absolute powerhouse for moisturizing the skin. Add in a nourishing oil like avocado oil, which is rich in vitamins, and it further helps the skin retain moisture.
