We tested both, and there was a clear winner for us.
When it comes to nourishing your skin, not all butters are created equal. While shea butter is widely known and loved, we have intentionally chosen mango butter as a star ingredient in our formulations. Here’s why.
A Lighter, More Elegant Skin Feel
Mango butter offers deep hydration without the heaviness often associated with shea butter. It absorbs more quickly into the skin, leaving behind a soft, smooth finish instead of a greasy or waxy residue.
For us, that matters. We want our products to feel luxurious, not heavy, so you can use them any time of day without hesitation. Shea comes in two variations: natural and deodorized. Natural has a distinct yellow hue and nutty scent. The deodorizing process that removes the color and scent uses chemical solvents. If done improperly, this process can destroy the beneficial properties of Shea. We are not willing to take a chance.
Gentle and Suitable for Sensitive Skin
Mango butter is naturally gentle and less likely to feel overwhelming on delicate or sensitive skin. It provides moisture and support without clogging pores or sitting heavily on the surface.
This makes it especially ideal for facial products, lightweight moisturizers, and everyday body care.
A More Neutral Natural Scent
One of mango butter’s advantages is its mild, almost undetectable natural aroma. Unlike natural shea butter, which can have a strong, nutty scent, mango butter allows our essential oil blends to shine through clearly and beautifully. That means what you smell is intentional, clean, and true to the scent we craft.
Smooth, Consistent Texture
Texture matters more than you might think. Some natural butters, like shea butter, can develop a grainy or uneven feel when exposed to temperature changes during production or storage.
Mango butter, on the other hand, is known for its naturally smooth and stable texture. It helps us create products that feel silky, consistent, and easy to apply every single time. If mango does melt, simply store it in a cool location and wait for the texture to return.
This consistency allows us to craft products that feel as good as they look.
Thoughtful Ingredient Sourcing
We believe where ingredients come from matters. Both mango butter and shea butter are globally sourced, and like many natural ingredients, their supply chains can vary.
Mango butter is often made from the seed of the fruit, giving new life to a part that might otherwise go unused. It’s a small detail, but one that fits nicely with our approach to thoughtful formulation.
As of April, 2026 our mango butter is sourced from India and produced in the United States by a local company. This option is not available for shea butter.
Why It Matters to You
Every ingredient choice we make is about your experience. From how a product glides onto your skin to how it absorbs and feels throughout the day, mango butter helps us deliver something that feels light, clean, and thoughtfully made.
The Bottom Line
At the end of the day, this isn’t about which ingredient is more popular. It’s about how something feels when you use it. After working with both, mango butter gave us the smooth texture, lightweight feel, thoughtful sourcing and consistency we were looking for.
And that is exactly what we want you to experience every time you open a jar. For us, mango butter simply creates a better experience, and that’s something you can feel from the very first use.
