From day one at Soapie Squad, we have made conscious decisions to reduce our environmental impact. From reduced packaging and sustainable bamboo soap trays to reusable gift bags and post-recycled lip balm containers, every choice matters. Even the smallest decision can contribute to a larger impact.
In 2025, we are taking a stand to remove all plastics from our lotion lines. Previously, our lotions were packaged in post-recycled plastics, but we are excited to announce that every lotion has been transformed into a container made from wheat straw. Yes, the same plant you see swaying in the wind!
Wheat straw is a byproduct of harvesting the wheat plant. Parts of the plant that would have normally gone to waste or burned are now repurposed into the container that holds your lotion.
Unlike conventional plastic containers, which take hundreds of years to break down, wheat straw containers decompose naturally within a few months to a few years—depending on the right conditions. This makes them the perfect alternative to traditional plastics. They are still lightweight and shatter-resistant, which is important if you apply your lotion in the bathroom!
Unlike traditional plastic containers, wheat straw does not contain chemicals that can leach into skincare products. Wheat straw containers are free from toxic substances and are universally safe for people sensitive to wheat. Like all things, if you have concerns, it’s best to check with a medical provider.
So, you’ve finished your amazing lotion—now what? Time to do the right thing! You have two options:
- If you have a home compost, remove the label, break the container into small pieces and toss it into the bin. Yes, it’s that simple!
- If not, you can add it to your home recycling bin. Either way, you’re helping the environment.
For now, our deodorants will remain in cardboard containers.
